Net zero carbon delivery in practice: highlights from our Explore Offsite panel

Our Explore Offsite panel shared real-world examples of MMC supporting net zero carbon delivery.

What does net zero carbon delivery actually look like in practice? That was one of the questions our panel debate explored at the Explore Offsite conference, held at the Nation Conference Centre, Birmingham, on 15 September.

Panellists answered with projects where MMC and industrailised construction have contributed to net zero carbon outcomes. These ranged from student accomodation and a railway platform lift to a Biohaus project, a large farm complex for the Duchy of Cornwall and a college scheme. Together, they showed the breadth of approaches already in use. Other speakers across the day added their own examples of decarbonisation.

But we still need more evidence of what works. That’s why BUILDOFFSITE and CIRIA have been gathering case studies through Net Zero Carbon Champions, an initiative chaired by panellist Andrew Pryke, Managing Director of Bam Design. Selected projects with measurable carbon performance will feature in new industry guidance. They will build an evidence base that could help make the case for government-backed financial incentives that reward carbon reduction.
