The latest government advice on the coronavirus (COVID-19) and updates from the construction industry.
 

CIC launches Low Value Disputes Model Adjudication Procedure The Construction Industry Council will be launching its Low Value Disputes Model Adjudication Procedure (CIC LVD MAP) on 1st May 2020 via a webinar at 2pm.

The webinar will feature presentations by Rt Hon Nick Raynsford Chairman of CICAIR, Niall Lawless Chair of the CIC ADR Management Board and Fergus Harradence, Deputy Director for Construction, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Guidance for on-site construction sites Langley, supported by CIC, has produced a short video that demonstrates safe and responsible guidance for workers on construction sites operating during the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, to ensure the protection of the workforce and minimise the risk of spread of infection.

This guidance advises how consistent measures on sites, of all sizes, can be responsibly and safely undertaken with adherence to the Government’s recommendations on social distancing.

To help ensure the safe operation on site within the construction industry , it has worked to develop site operating procedures, published by the Construction Leadership Council.

 

 

Business Support Checker Tool new ‘support finder’ tool will help businesses and self-employed people across the UK to quickly and easily determine what financial support is available to them during the coronavirus pandemic.

The new online platform on gov.uk asks business owners and the self-employed to fill out a quick and simple online questionnaire. They will then be directed to a list of all the financial support they may be eligible for. You can find out more about the tool here.

 

 

Coronavirus Job Retention SchemeThe UK Government has published a step-by-step guide to the use of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which opened on Monday. The guide can be found here.

 

 

Scotland

The Scottish Government has announced a second package of business support including:

• £120m to extend the Small Business Grant scheme to ensure that, in addition to a 100% grant on the first property, small business ratepayers will be eligible to a 75% grant on all subsequent properties.
• A further £100m fund is also being made available to protect self-employed people and viable micro and SME businesses in distress due to COVID.
• This fund will be channelled through local authorities and enterprise agencies to target newly self-employed people and businesses who are ineligible for other Scottish Government or UK Government schemes.

Applications for the £100 million fund will be open by the end of the month and the new arrangements for the Small Business Grant will be in place to receive applications on 5 May.

Survey to canvas opinion about the issues our industry faces at the end of lock-down We want to canvass the opinion of our members to see what they feel are likely to be the biggest issues following the end of the Coronavirus lockdown.  Once the economy is turned back on again, some people fear that there may be a number of issues, that delay or at least hamper a quick return to productivity.

Support the fight against coronavirus

The Construction Leadership Council is in touch with NHS London Hospitals Trust to help the NHS with urgently needed PPE.  A summary of the equipment required is as follows:

  • FFP3 Respirator Masks
  • Full Face Visors (disposable)
  • Full Face Visors (reusable)
  • Safety Goggles/Glasses
  • Hand Sanitiser
  • Full Body (Hazardous Material) Suits
  • Logistics/Transport support
