BUILDOFFSITE and CIRIA collaborate to showcase net zero carbon champions in MMC
One of the key ambitions in our five-year BUILDOFFSITE Manifesto is to embed sustainability and drive net zero carbon through Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
Financial incentives for carbon reduction tailored to offsite methods are critical to improving carbon value—particularly for organisations working towards PAS 2080, PAS 8700, and BOPAS accreditations. These initiatives will help the offsite sector deliver measurable carbon savings in line with the UK Government’s net zero carbon goals.
However, these policy ambitions cannot be realised without robust empirical evidence demonstrating that MMC is making a measurable impact in this area. To address this, BUILDOFFSITE and CIRIA are joining forces to assess and quantify the net zero carbon benefits of using offsite methods.
We know that tangible benefits are already being delivered, and exemplary projects exist that demonstrate how MMC contributes to carbon reduction. These projects need to be highlighted so that lessons can be shared across the sector.
The objective of this new project is to showcase current Net Zero Carbon Champions in MMC—individuals, organisations, or companies leading the way in measurable carbon savings.
BUILDOFFSITE and CIRIA members, along with key stakeholders, will be invited to propose case studies of completed construction projects that demonstrate clear net zero carbon outcomes. These submissions will be reviewed by a Project Steering Group made up of members, contributors, funders, regulators, and academic experts. After a rigorous shortlisting process, 8–10 case studies will be selected for publication in 2026.
To learn more about the initiative, read our Net Zero Carbon Offsite Champions (P3307) proposal.
We are inviting expressions of interest from colleagues who wish to join the Project Steering Group, help shape the guide, or submit potential case studies for consideration.
To help cover staffing and policy engagement costs, we also ask organisations to consider providing a financial contribution in support of this important new publication. If you would like to get involved or learn more, please contact Dirk Vennix.
