Intellectual property management for MMC – new guidance

Background
The construction sector appears to be at a tipping point with respect to the wider use of MMC and offsite solutions. Generating robust, protectable IP is key to justifying investment in R&D and efficient manufacturing systems.

The processes, systems and contracts that have served traditional construction well have been less effective for MMC. This roundtable and the new guidance will consider how to manage these challenges to ensure MMC IP continues to drive improvements within infrastructure delivery, accelerate the scaling of MMC solutions, and crowd in wider private investment.

Addressing a range of challenges that relate to managing IP associated with the procurement, use and development of MMC, the publication will provide actionable guidance to assist a wide range of stakeholders to improve their management of MMC IP. The guidance aims to increase the level and exploitation of innovations in the construction sector to ultimately meet net zero targets, improve productivity, reduce costs, and improve performance of the sector and the facilities it produces.
