This is the second of the Rail Hub’s Bridges and Viaducts DfMA Workshop. The first workshop was held in London on 30th September 2016. This workshop will have an interactive focus looking at design features that have been used successfully, design features to be avoided, what a design brief should ask for, and more. The aim of the two workshops is to compile a Buildoffsite guide to DfMA for bridges and viaducts.

Conceived by Arup, the world’s first modular glass-fibre, reinforced polymer bridge was recently launched by Mabey, the first licensed distribution partner, under the brand name Pedesta™. The post-tensioned bridge can be used in restricted-access locations, allows for spans of up to 30 metres, is 70% lighter than steel, and modules only require a pallet truck or forklift to move.

The main focus of the day – a practical session looking at ideas, suggestions, possibilities and guidelines for future DfMA bridge and viaduct solutions
