Modular sector 'benefiting from credit crunch'
Companies offering modular construction as a cheaper alternative
to traditional builds are benefiting from the slowing UK economy, it has
been claimed.
Several modular construction companies have witnessed an
increase in demand for their cost-effective manufacturing tenchniques,
as residential building companies seek to tighten the purse strings, according
to Contract Journal.
Joint managing director of Spaceover Steven Barratt told
the publication: "I think cost and complying with the Code for Sustainable
Homes are the primary driver for housebuilders' interest."
He added that Spaceover has just completed the signing
of 12 new contracts with major housebuilder clients to license them its
modular system.
Britspace tells a similar story, with sales and marketing
director Terry Jupp telling the website their annual turnover is expected
to increase four-fold in the next year alone.
British Board of Agrement-accredited Britspace has been
in operation for over 30 years and its modular building system can be
used for projects with spans of up to 12 metres and 12 storeys.
