Yorkon reduces landfill waste by 50%
Yorkon has reduced its landfill waste levels by half,
it has been claimed.
According to the off-site firm, the 50 per cent reduction
in landfill waste levels has been achieved over a period of three years.
"The volume of material wasted through damage
and deterioration is significantly reduced with off-site construction,"
said Yorkon.
"Any storage is under cover and in controlled
factory conditions, and operatives are not subcontracted labour but are
permanently employed and highly skilled and trained," the company
added.
Indeed, Yorkon believes that waste level reductions have
been achieved through the adoption of a number of strategies, including
a restructuring of the composition of the company's polyurethane insulation
foam and the use of "intelligent" design.
A recent survey by the Waste and Resources Action Programme
(Wrap) found that modern methods of construction generate waste savings
of up to 80 per cent.
Wrap was established in 2000.
