School redevelopment plans progress

The redevelopment plans of two schools in Albany, New York State, are to be offered for tender after agreement was reached at the Albany School Board.

Under the proposals, modular offices are to be installed at Grand Prairie School, while West Albany High School is to receive a new two-room prefabricated classroom, reports the Albany Democrat-Herald.

As part of the full range of redevelopment proposals, a new building will also be developed for the alternative Albany Options programme, at a total cost of around $3.5 million (£1.7 million).

The three new projects will be financed through the board's "regular budget" rather than through voter-approved funding and work is expected to begin during the year; work on the Albany Options programme is expected to be completed by 2008.

Named after the Duke of Albany, the city was founded in 1614 and has a population of 94,226 according to statistics published in 2004.
