Modular system making "significant contribution"
A modular scaffolding system has been praised for boosting efficiency levels at a recently completed Brighton project.
Layher's Allround technology from D&R Scaffolding was used by Balfour Beatty in the construction of a new learning and residential centre for Study Group International, according to Contract Journal.
Said to have "made a significant contribution", the system helped to build the £26 million facility, which features 375 bedrooms, 62 classrooms, a cafe, an exam hall and a library, spread over five storeys.
Arthur Parsons, spokesperson for D&R, explained why the scaffolding works so well.
"It features built-in ladders with trapdoors that allow safe movement between levels, unlike tube and fitting, which you have to add handrails to."
"It's certainly faster to put up - I'd say it takes half the time in some cases," he enthused.
Based in London, Balfour Beatty is one of the UK's largest construction companies.
