Modular construction 'better suited for tight budgets'
The relative cheapness of modular and prefabricated construction techniques has been highlighted in an interview with a hotel expert.
Allan Sugg, spokesman for EC Harris, told Cnplus.co.uk that prefabricated buildings are a big help to the hotel sector due to the determination to minimise costs and a growing green agenda.
"We are already seeing sustainability and better use of energy in buildings," he said of his industry's attempts to become more eco-friendly.
"Prefabrication is important too. It has different ends of the scale and modular construction is more suited to the budget end of the market."
One modular hotel that has received a large amount of publicity recently is the new Travelodge in Uxbridge, which is scheduled for completion in June.
The eight-storey, 128-room accommodation is being made from shipping containers, which are modified offsite in China, according to Building.
Travelodge hopes this method of construction will save it £10 million every year.
