Prefab buildings help Pakistan earthquake victims
Prefabricated housing units have been donated by the UK
as part of an ongoing international aid effort to Pakistan following the
devastating earthquake of 2007.
The UK's Department for International Development (DFID)
has announced that an extra £1 million will be provided to support
the local government institutions in affected areas, according to thenews.com.
At the official signing ceremony, deputy head of DFID Pakistan
told reporters: "The UK has been a frontline supporter of the efforts
of the government of Pakistan since the earthquake struck […] this
programme will help effect real change in this area."
UK aid totalling £1.8 million has already been used
to provide prefabricated office units to house government buildings and
the additional aid will allow this network to be extended along with a
host of other reconstruction projects, according to the site.
Extra funding from the UK will also be put towards training
workers in affected areas for the construction work necessary to rebuild
roads, bridges and homes.
DFID is an international government organisation that aims
to wipe out extreme poverty through aid programmes to help the one billion
people affected throughout the world.
