A south-east timber frame company has received the backing of Sheffield Green Party councillors in its bid to win social housing contracts for the city.
Oakworth Homes impressed councillor Bernard Little so much on a recent visit that the Green Party representative called for timber-framed offsite building techniques to be employed in all local housing projects, the South Yorkshire Star reports.
Central ward councillor Mr Little told the newspaper: "Once clad with brick outer walls, they look just like any other house. All the wood used is from well-managed environmentally-sound forests.
"They can be built up to seven storeys high and are very easy to insulate to the best low carbon building standards."
He added that he had also been impressed by the quality of the work on display at the Oakland Homes site.
