Modular homes showcased at international exhibit

Modular building designs have been at the centre of this year's International Builders Show, it has been reported.

The event, at the Orange County Convention Centre in Florida, saw one house given a gold level green award by the American National Association of Homebuilders, according to Central Florida News 13.

No prefabricated house has received the accolade before, with the state-of-the-art building 40 per cent more environmentally friendly in some respects than traditional alternatives.

Among the parts of the building designed to be green are showerheads and taps, paintwork and glass. There is also a system in place to ensure that air does not escape.

Construction companies in the UK will probably be aware of numerous prefabricated houses currently being showcased in the UK, including an Ikea prototype in the north-east and 1950s classic La Maison Tropicale in London.
