A prototype timber frame home in Ireland has been voted as the most "eco-friendly building" of 2007.
Starting life as a prototype for the 2004 Ideal Homes Exhibition, the timber frame construction was built in 15 days, using a minimal amount of non-biodegradable materials and renewable sources have been used where possible, reports the Dublin People.
A majority of the materials used during construction can be recycled.
Built by Durkan New Homes after being commissioned by Century Homes, the property is now used by the Christina Noble Children's Foundation (CNCF), after adaptation by South Dublin County Council.
"The project will provide a range of childcare facilities, including a crèche and facilities for single parent families and eventually it will provide care for autistic children as well," said John Goulding, designer of the property.
CNCF offers aid to children in need, in areas such as medical care and education.
