Ulster company to make modular-build history

An ambitious new 25 million euro (£20 million) contract has been granted to modular build specialist Western Building Systems.

The Ulster company has been charged with the building of seven new schools for 2,200 pupils in the Republic of Ireland - to be completed in just 20 weeks using the latest modular construction techniques, according to NewsLetter.com.

Managing director Martin McCloskey told the website: "Building so many schools in such a short time frame has never been done before in Ireland and we are delighted to once again be given the opportunity to lead the field in fast-track modular construction."

Launched by the Republic's department of education, the company was one of 50 construction companies which applied for the contract, which will house the equivalent of 110 children per week, the website reports.

Western Building Systems was established in 1982 and its commercially available products include modular and panelised systems for the health, education and commercial sectors, as well as jackleg units and timber framed, modular and park homes.
