An innovative residential property has incorporated precast concrete panels into its unique design.
The New American Home in Orlando, designed by Ed Binkley, features a building frame comprising precast pieces in contrast to the wood stud and concrete block composite favoured by many construction companies.
A cement expert told New York House that the pre-prepared panels would prove an advantage to residents in Florida where hurricanes and tornadoes are a relatively common occurrence.
Jim Niehoff from the Portland Cement Association also contended that the building frame materials of the demonstration home are an eco-friendly feature since they are cast with insulation in order to reduce carbon emissions.
The spokesman noted that the concrete pieces fit snugly together which enables them to reduce drafts and other air leaks in order to improve the property's energy efficiency levels.
In addition, the show home has a number of other energy-saving installations including photovoltaic solar panels and a storm-water harvesting system.
Mr Binkley works with BSB Design and has participated in a number of major projects including a Boomer Concept house.
