Diversified Speciality Institutes (DSI) has announced its plans to enter the prefabricated hospital sector.
The Nashville-based company has confirmed it is developing a hybrid 24-bed hospital near Philadelphia, which utilises both prefabricated and traditional building methods, reports the Tennessean.
DSI has also announced plans to develop an entirely prefabricated 40 to 60-bed hospital in Phoenix in 2008.
The firm, which plans to construct two prefabricated hospitals every year for its own use, is a nationwide operator of outpatient dialysis clinics.
"This is a very efficient way to build hospitals at a much lower cost," said Jerome S Tannenbaum, chairman, president and chief executive officer of DSI.
"The DSI facility, catering to a limited number of physicians will provide a respectful and responsive environment … which will ultimately contribute to improved overall patient care and satisfaction," states the company on its website.
In July 2006, the firm installed a modular-designed wing at Bucks County Hospital in Pennsylvania.
