Construction firms are increasingly turning towards timber frame construction methods, an expert has claimed.
According to Graham Norwood of the Independent, construction firms are increasingly opting for timber frame constructions in order to improve the overall sustainability of the development.
Indeed, carbon emissions released from a three-bedroom detached home made of timber - instead of more traditional materials such as concrete or brick - are 16.5 per cent lower.
"Timber has the lowest carbon cost of any mainstream building material," said Stuart Delgarno from the UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA).
"New research shows that it is possible to achieve up to 86 per cent reduction in greenhouse gases simply by increasing the amount of timber," he added.
Established in 2002, the UKTFA is a trade association for Britain's timber frame manufacturers and suppliers.
