Buildoffsite exists to create a step change in offsite to respond to the massive demand for new construction in the UK.
Buildoffsite is uniquely placed to bring together and lead this new industry to deliver quality construction solutions, meeting the needs of the 21st Century.
It will succeed through the breadth, weight, active participation and shared learning of its members, generating critical mass in both demand and supply.
Those who share this vision for a new industry to deliver quality solutions through offsite are invited to join us.
Together we can prove the case for offsite.
Buildoffsite is a membership organisation and for the most part it is the annual fees paid by members which provide the revenue to support the Buildoffsite work programme. The fee scale is set out in the attached table.
Unlike many other organisations Buildoffsite does not negotiate discounted fees for certain members. If organisations wish to participate then these are the annual fees that are paid by all.
However, it is not simply a question of Members paying the annual membership fee. What is equally as important is that Members are prepared to invest their time to participate in Buildoffsite activities in order to ensure that their organisation gets the maximum possible value from its membership.
Buildoffsite has established a range of services and activities that deliver tangible Member benefit. These include:
Discovering Off-site Events: promoted and supported by Buildoffsite but hosted by individual Members who may be manufacturers, designers, constructors or client organisations. These events provide an opportunity for the individual member to promote its products, services and requirements to other members and also to paying guests drawn from the Buildoffsite contact data base. The opportunity to host such events is available only to members of Buildoffsite.
Dave Harris, Britspace
“Britspace has been delighted to host Discovering Offsite visits to our factory at Gilbedyke. These events have provided a really effective mechanism for us to connect with potential new customers and to show visitors what we can offer”.
Stakeholder Events: the opportunity for members both to attend and also to nominate guests to attend Buildoffsite Stakeholder Events. Typically held twice a year these popular and well attended business to business and networking events are hosted by the Department for Business and will usually feature presentations from prominent construction clients. Members who wish to do so are also able to use these events to display and circulate their promotional material. Members are also able to participate in both the plenary programme and the associate seminar programmes.
Talking Head – Paul Glinn, M&S
“M&S are a member of Buildoffsite and a keen supporter of offsite to help further our Plan A goals. The well attended Buildoffsite stakeholder conferences and workshops provide an excellent opportunity for us to communicate our goals to the industry, understand wider industry developments and provide an excellent opportunity for business to business networking”.
Breakfast Briefings: Members are eligible to attend free of charge all Buildoffsite Breakfast Briefings on a range of topics. Recent events have included expert led workshops on R&D Tax Credits. In addition to the technical discussions these events have also proved to be a great place for business to business networking.
Mark Bryden - Bryden Wood
“I am responsible for a substantial capital programme and in collaboration with our suppliers I need to find ways to take waste out of design and construction processes. Buildoffsite’s programme of themed Workshops to promote the practical application of lean production techniques will enable many more organisations to benefit from the new ways of working that MoJ is implementing into its own project programme”.
Buildoffsite Yearbook: All Member organisations are featured in the Buildoffsite Yearbook. A PDF of the Yearbook is downloadable from the Buildoffsite web site.
Bill Healy – CEO CIRIA
“The Buildoffsite Yearbook provides an overview of the range of activities that are being undertaken to support the commercial and policy case for a substantial increase in off-site construction methods. The Yearbook also provides information on the individual Members and their products, projects and services which are collectively contributing to a more effective, more sustainable and more responsive construction industry”.
Case Studies: The Buildoffsite web site is currently populated with 200 Case Studies provided by the Membership which feature the use of off site solutions in actual construction projects. This reference collection attracts a high level of traffic and serves to bring the activities of the Membership to a substantial audience in the UK and Internationally. Only Members are able to contribute Case Studies.
Nigel Fraser, BAA
“At BAA we have had a substantial programme of new build, refurbishment and retrofit construction works. Both below and above ground. We have many offsite construction successes, some of which have been used in storyboards for the Buildoffsite cameos. Cameo number 1 is on precast concrete service pits. More recently working with the Buildoffsite office team, we have produced articles for cameos on the new Air Traffic Control Tower at Heathrow. There are more in the pipeline. We like our suppliers to use offsite construction where it can add value through reducing cost, minimising disruption to airside operations, improving predictability and most importantly, making the construction process safer. BAA will continue to value the benefits of offsite construction and Buildoffsite is a good forum for clients and potential suppliers to explore offsite construction processes, products and opportunities”.
Buildoffsite Newsletter: The Buildoffsite Newsletter is published quarterly and is emailed to many thousands of readers across the industry. Members are encouraged to contribute articles and editorials based on their projects, investment decisions and technical initiatives.
Roy Nield Dumper, Composite
“We were very pleased to have the opportunity to contribute material to the Buildoffsite Newsletter. This has given us a valuable opportunity to promote ourselves and what we can offer to a significant number of potential industry partners and customers. It is very useful for us to be able to connect with those who are already supportive of innovation and the increased use of off-site construction methods”.
The E-Zine: published monthly this highly regarded update on all that is new in off-site construction from across the globe includes an exclusive section highlighting features drawn from the Membership.
David Johnson, Yorkon
“The Buildoffsite EZine is a great way to follow the latest advances in off-site construction from around the world. Yorkon is absolutely delighted that a number of our projects have been referenced in the EZine. The publicity is very useful to us”.
Client Briefing Sessions: Opportunities for the Membership to meet privately with leading serial clients and to review their investment proposals for new projects and to offer advice on construction solutions that would offer value to the client.
Mark Cammies, Health Properties
“Circle is embarking on a major investment programme for new health facilities in the UK via its sister company Health Properties. They are uncompromising in adopting the most efficient and innovative construction methods, whilst ensuring a build quality that is second to none in the sector. Key learning’s and best practice from each project will be implemented and there will be a substantial proportion in the use of off-site construction solutions. It has been very useful to have the opportunity to discuss our project at Bath with Buildoffsite members and to explore further avenues for improvement on our class leading programme”.
Speed Dating: A structured opportunity to meet with other Members and to identify opportunities for collaboration and knowledge transfer.
David Appleford, Acermetric
“My colleagues and I have really enjoyed the Buildoffsite speed-dating events. These provide us with an intense but really rewarding opportunity to get into discussions with a range of people we would not normally meet. The ideas that flow are inspiring and commercially very useful”.
Participation in the Buildoffsite Direction Group: An opportunity for individual Members to get directly involved in the development and management of the Buildoffsite organisation and to contribute to the decision taking on new work programmes.
Lee Horton, NG Bailey
“It has been really interesting to get personally involved in influencing the development of Buildoffsite’s work. Those gathered around the table have a tremendous amount of expert knowledge which provides a really fertile opportunity for business to business discussion as well as being invaluable for fine-tuning the Buildoffsite work programme”.
Participation in Working Groups: Buildoffsite has established a number of specialist Working Groups and Members are encouraged to participate. A Working Group on “Sustainability” has recently been established with a Working Group on Building Information Modelling under development.
Mark Bew, Scott Wilson
“I am delighted that Buildoffsite is taking such a proactive position with regard to the promotion of information modelling techniques within the industry. The increased application of BIM will I am certain encourage more organisations to make use of off-site solutions in order to maximise the benefits of quality, time, cost and predictability of dimension and performance. The combination of BIM and Buildoffsite gives the industry the best possible opportunity to improve productivity and provide best value to our clients”.
Member to Member Networking: Members are encouraged and supported by the Secretariat to connect with other Members in support of business opportunities, collaboration and innovation.
Dale Evans, Anglian Water
“Anglian Water undertakes a great deal of repetitive construction, through discussion with other Buildoffsite Member organisations we were able to identify significant savings that could be achieved by adopting an approach to construction based around standard manufacturing procedures and the use of standard components and systems. The approach we are now taking in collaboration with our off-site partners will enable us to realise savings in cost whilst delivering improvements in quality and time. This is just what we want from the industry and are now looking to roll out the approach across a range of our construction projects as well as sharing our experiences with others”.
