BAA

BAA has an ambitious £6.6billion investment plan to transform its airports.

Over the next 5 years £4bn will be spent at Heathrow alone to completely renovate and rebuild the airport's facilities and enhance the passenger experience.

Our biggest investments at Heathrow include:

  • Exciting plans for a new £1billion Terminal 2 at Heathrow to become the new home for Star Alliance airlines providing an estimated 20 million passengers every year with a spacious and modern airport facility.
  • A £1bn investment programme to upgrade baggage infrastructure at Heathrow to deliver every bag, with every customer, every time. This includes a £300m baggage tunnel to connect Heathrow's five terminals, capable of processing 3,000 bags an hour - equivalent to 110m bags a year.
  • Extensive refurbishments of Terminals 1, 3 and 4.

BAA is also investing £2.6bn at our other airports by 2013, including:

  • £500m at Stansted on the upgrade of the terminal and building a new pier
  • £874m at Gatwick on the North Terminal extension and refurbishment and South Terminal upgrade.
  • £24m at Southampton on an upgrade to the terminal, retail, commercial and car park facilities.
  • In Scotland, we'll be spending £100m at Glasgow on a terminal
extension, new aircraft stands and pier plus taxiway strengthening.
Aberdeen airport will get a £50m terminal extension, runway resurfacing, new car park and aircraft stand rebuild. Meanwhile, Edinburgh airport will see a £150m terminal extension, new aircraft stands, runway resurfacing and improved commercial facilities.

BAA is committed to developing its airports responsibly. That's why BAA has sought to lead the industry in the use of sustainable construction materials. Heating, cooling and powering airport terminals all require energy that contributes to carbon dioxide emissions, so BAA is working hard to reduce energy use in buildings by 30% by 2020. Our unique demands also mean that the build offsite process is beneficial in order to minimise disruption both to safe airport operations and nearby local communities.

Passengers and airlines are already taking advantage of the benefits of BAA's £6bn capital programme over its seven airports. With improved check in facilities, more space for security and bright and modern facilities BAA is working hard to making every journey better.
